Howdy folks. We've had a lot of interesting chats lately with people about SEO so we've launched a new SEO report service to help you get to grips with your website.
What does SEO mean?
It stands for Search Engine Optimisation.
SEO is the process you go through when designing and updating your website to get the best organic search results (we're not talking pay-per-click or ads). Search engines are looking for what is most useful and interesting to customers so you need to make it as valuable, as easy to use and as interesting as possible.
Why is it so important?
The higher a search engine rates it, the more useful it thinks your website is to potential customers and the higher you will appear on search rankings.
Page one is where everyone wants to be. Think about it – when was the last time you looked beyond the first page of results?
How can you improve it?
The search engines keep their precise algorithm under tight wraps but there are some features that are widely known to affect your search ranking. For example;
Responsive Design - Does your website adapt to work on different devices, such as laptops, tablets and mobiles? If not, then you're getting a big fat minus score for customer usability. Google released a statement saying that more searches are done via mobile and tablets now than desktop and adjusted their ranking system accordingly... and when Google say something is important, you better sit up and take notice.
Content – In this case, quality and quantity are both important, remember, search engines are looking for what's most useful to the customers. They need to be able to understand the range of services or products you offer, but we don't mean with paragraphs upon paragraphs of copy because people just won't read it. Instead, break up text with relevant images and include headings, sub-headings, bulleted lists and internal links to make information easily accessible.
Analytics – How do you measure the success of your website? Businesses who constantly review and update their website are much more likely to offer useful content to customers. We use Google Analytics on our sites and it really is amazing what information you can get from your website and how it can shape future advertising/marketing spend.
There are plenty more aspects which determine how highly ranked your website is and this is just the briefest of glimpses into the world of SEO. Our full report goes in-depth to see how your website is performing in an easy to understand manner and will look at things like:
Accessibility - Broken links, alt text, URL format, speed, readability, redirects.
Content - Spelling, quantity, search engine results, keyword density, inbound links.
Marketing - Analytic software, social media, popularity, open graph, page titles and descriptions.
Technology - Responsive design, optimised for printing, W3C compliant, CSS layout, missing files.
It will score, show penalties and give weightings to how important the information is before giving you tips on how to improve.
Our full SEO report can really help you understand where you can improve. It's great value for money at only £99, why not start the New Year with one and do another one at the end of the year to see how much you've improved?
